Welcome to the website of Kathleen McHugh, P.A. I am an experienced Criminal Defense Trial Attorney with over 100 jury trials in which I was Lead Trial Counsel. I have an undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice from Florida State University and a Juris Doctorate from Nova Southeastern University.

I have extensive experience handling juvenile and adult cases. As a former Assistant Public Defender in Broward County, I was assigned to the
Misdemeanor Domestic Violence Unit of Judge Ronald Rothschild. This was a specially created unit developed in 1995 to exclusively handle these cases. I was awarded the "Misdemeanor Trial Attorney of the Year" Award by the Broward County Public Defender's Office in 1995 for the highest number of
jury trials.

Additionally, I was the Lead Trial Attorney in the felony Domestic Violence
Unit (DVU) presided over by Judge Geoffrey Cohen. While in the unit I handled the following cases: aggravated stalking, aggravated battery on a pregnant female, aggravated child abuse, burglary with a battery, kidnapping, false imprisonment, sexual battery, and attempted murder.

I also handled numerous cases in the felony division of Judge Statnon Kaplan. While in this felony division, I handled trafficking in cocaine and controlled substances, D.U.I. manslaughter, vehicular homicide, battery on a law
enforcement officer, armed burglary, armed robbery, and arson cases.
